This session will explore the nuances of course development, faculty training, and student success strategies in the online realm. Participants will engage in a narrative of change, highlighting the challenges, strategic planning, and actionable steps MCNY took to ensure quality education and support for all stakeholders.

The Power of Collaboration: Multi-Layered Quality Assurance for Successful Online Learning Implementation

Join this highly engaging working session and examine the intricacies of institutional quality assurance implementation to meet organizational and accrediting standards. Together, we will explore opportunities to interweave Quality Matters into the fabric of your institutional practices and procedures in order to elevate your online learning initiatives and promote learner success.

The Power of a Checklist: Improving Quality Assurance as a Community of Practice

How do checklists work? What makes for an effective checklist? What role can they play in quality assurance? How can checklists improve teamwork and communication? Faculty and IDs can harness the power of checklists to improve the quality of online teaching and course development and the effectiveness of communication and teamwork. Participants will construct a 5-9-item checklist for a quality assurance process and receive feedback from a peer.

The ID-SME Team: Using Asynchronous Collaboration to Save Time Without Sacrificing Quality

This session is a case study presentation focused on using asynchronous methods for collaborating with SMEs at a public higher education institution. Creating a collaborative environment in a short timeframe can be challenging. Finding ways to collaborate asynchronously provides more efficient course development pathways to save time without sacrificing quality.

The HIDOC Course Blueprint: Mapping your Course Design Step-by-Step

Creating a macro-level view of your course design showing alignment among the components can be challenging, especially when creating a blueprint for colleagues or students to provide feedback. The HIDOC design model is built for online modalities and offers free Design Documents and Course Blueprints that are publicly available. This session will focus on the HIDOC Course Blueprint and how to use it when designing your course, evaluating course alignment, or preparing for course review.

The AI Authoring Advantage: Balancing Speed and Substance in Course Creation

Generative AI tools have revolutionized content creation, making it faster and more efficient than ever. But AI’s potential extends far beyond just speed—it has the power to fundamentally reshape the way we approach instructional design. In this session, we’ll go beyond the basics and explore innovative AI frameworks, examine critical ethical considerations, and dive into practical, hands-on applications to enhance both course quality and efficiency. You’ll leave with forward-thinking insights and actionable strategies to harness AI to build more impactful online learning environments.

Strategies for Course Enhancement: Elevate through Iteration

Using a course that was continuously improved over a 5 year period as an example, this session will explore strategies for effective course enhancement by following an iterative process. Participants will learn practical steps to examine student feedback, reimagine course content and develop innovative course enhancements, and set realistic development timelines. The session will end with small group discussions where participants develop their own wish list of improvements and receive feedback.

Stand-Up Standards: The Improv Game Show for Learning About QM

This session is an interactive game show to introduce attendees to the QM Standards. This fun session will engage participants to apply QA frameworks to create high-quality courses that empower your learners. We will cover all 8 general standards in lightning rounds with reflection points between rounds. Participants will win prizes and learn how the QM Standards can inform the design of effective, high-quality courses.
